A simple beginner meal plan for gym days

An everyday meal-plan example with practical food swaps, without rigid calorie targets or expensive supplements.

Build regular meals before chasing numbers

An approachable meal plan starts with food you enjoy, can afford and can prepare consistently. You do not need expensive supplements to begin planning meals.

The NHS Eatwell Guide recommends a balance across food groups over a day or week, rather than making every meal perfect. Include fruit and vegetables, starchy foods, protein foods, dairy or suitable alternatives, and small amounts of unsaturated oils.

One example day

This is an example menu, not a calorie-controlled diet. Portion sizes depend on your needs and appetite. Check ingredients against your allergies and dietary requirements.

  • Breakfast: oats with milk or a suitable fortified alternative, plus fruit.
  • Lunch: rice, chicken or chickpeas, and mixed vegetables.
  • Dinner: potatoes, fish or beans, and vegetables.
  • An optional snack: fruit and plain yoghurt or a suitable alternative.

Make the shopping list work harder

Frozen vegetables, tinned beans and simple staples can make planning easier. Choose a few foods you can use in more than one meal, and swap ingredients rather than abandoning the whole plan.

Choose higher-fibre or wholegrain starchy foods where practical. Keep fluids available through the day. Specific nutrition needs vary, particularly with medical conditions, pregnancy or a history of disordered eating; seek appropriate professional advice.

Get a plan around your preferences

The free generator asks about your diet preferences and notes alongside your training goal. It suggests meals and nutrition targets as part of your plan.

AI estimates are a starting point, not a medical assessment. Check the meals, portions and allergy information yourself, and consult a registered dietitian for individual dietary advice when needed. The generator stays free; saving plans and tracking progress are optional paid extras.
